disturbing invitation

i received this ‘Feed a Child with a Click’ invitation over at Facebook. And, I’m so not happy with the image they used. It’s a malnourished kid with bones already sticking out of his skin. Can they use a better picture?!? I’m sorry but I find it sick. It’s you’re like being put on an emotional blackmail. And most of all, they use a picture of a child! If people would help, it’s not because of that sick picture, it’s because they genuinely believe in the cause. No need for depressing pictures. If you want to see the picture, click here. (I can’t bring myself to post it here.)

This reminds me of a Pulitzer Prize winner photographer, Kevin Carter, who took his own life after his photograph which showed a starving Sudanese child being stalked by a vulture made him won a Pulitzer Prize for feature photography. Rumor was that the picture had haunted him.

I feel strongly for this because as a mother, any thing that involves children evokes a very strong emotion in me. (I guess it’s a mother thing.) I cannot help imagining my kids to be the one on the picture. I cannot simply stomach it.

There’s really no need to show a ‘pussy’ to save prostitutes, right?!
